Now more than ever, students are being held accountable for grasping school curriculum. With the
requirements from “No Child Left Behind” and the various “End of Grade” tests, students are bearing some of
the pressures to succeed; not to mention the anxiety students feel in preparing for SAT testing once they start
pursuing college! We understand that parents also bear much of the burden and anxiety of helping their
children achieve academic success. Students and parents alike find relief from these burdens by allowing
our professional tutors to come and provide top-notch, individualized tutoring that caters to students’ specific
needs at all steps of their educational journey.

General Homework
The primary reason for teachers assigning homework is to provide students with an adequate amount of practice for mastery of the content. Usually, homework correlates well with teachers’ learning objectives. For this reason, your child’s tutor will use homework assignments to grasp an understanding of their teachers’ expectations and to ensure your child is fully learning the subject matter.
Test Taking Skill/E.O.G Prep
Now more than ever, a student’s ability to study for and take tests effectively is crucial, as his or her progress in school is dependent on E.O.G. scores and performance on assessments. We believe achieving good results on tests begins long before the day of the actual assessment. Our tutors will analyze where your child currently stands in his or her test preparation abilities, and will guide them through the steps needed to become an efficient and effective test-taker. We have outlined a number of techniques which will enhance your child’s assessment abilities through preparation during class (listening skills/note-taking techniques), preparation at home (study skills) and tips to use during the actual test itself!
English Language Arts
Our tutors will continually work to advance your child’s ability to communicate through written (reading & writing) and oral (listening and speaking) language. They will accomplish this through helping your child understand the structures of language and grammar conventions, extend their vocabulary skills, advance spelling ability and direct them to use resources to check spelling, guide them in reading a variety of text (non-fiction/fiction/poetry/drama) in different settings, help them evaluate text to learn author’s purpose and point of view, encourage them to think critically and creatively about ideas and teach them how to use media and technology as resources for learning.
Mathematics
Your child will be guided in the main concepts encompassed in the North Carolina mathematics curriculum. These concepts include numbers and operations (multiplication/division/fractions/decimals/estimations), geometry (analyze 2 and 3 dimensional figures/read graphs), data analysis and probability (organize/describe/display data), algebra (patterns/variables) and measurements (length/mass /time /temperature /capacity).
Science
We will strive to ensure your child is developing their own personal understanding of the physical and material world. The North Carolina science curriculum covers a vast number of science concepts and units including, but not limited to living organisms, weather, properties of matter and the human body. Building a knowledge base in all of the areas is very important, but even more pertinent is the ability for your child to master the skills to become a motivated explorer. Our tutors will guide your child to develop their skills as a good inquirer.
Social Studies
Your child’s tutor will assist in solidifying their classroom objectives in the area of social studies. The goal is to partner with schools in developing children’s’ knowledge of how to become responsible citizens at their school and in their communities. We will help your child discover social factors of families and cultures in the United States and around the world. In addition, emphasis will be placed on history, geography, economics and politics of North Carolina and the United States.
Computer/Technology Skills
In an ever-increasing technological society, students are now held more accountable for being competent in computer skills. Our tutors can help your child with basic keyboarding and general PC skills. In addition, they can help your child learn how to utilize the Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and the internet in an ethical way to help enhance their educational pursuits. |
